In my own little research project, I took it upon myself to check out my local photography competitors.
One that I came across, which will remain nameless, was very very cheap. $595-$1250. That made me curious, so I looked further. At the website, and the quality of the photos and what else this company had to offer.
The very first thing that I noticed was that weddings were not this photographers main focus. They did a lot of fashion photography, a lot of events and faces and portfolio's, but few actual weddings. Then looking at the quality of the pictures, they werent very good in my opinion. The pictures in itself looked liked they were taking with a digital camera ( one anyone would buy from walmart or something like that) versus real equipment. The brides werent glowing, the grooms looked pasty.
Then I understood why he doesnt charge that much for his packages. Its because he doesn't provide quality wedding photos.. and the products he provides were also the cheap kind of such..
Then I wonder..
Why would someone choose to get crappy product just for a better price? This isnt a rhetorical question people, I am really curious!
Most photographers and companies only require that the balance be paid in full by the wedding. Most couple book their photographers about a year in advance (give or take a couple months, on average) That is more than enought time to pay a little here, a little there, so its not so much of a burden when the time comes to walk down the aisle. To me, it just makes sense to pay for what i want, not what the best price is, because the best price isnt always the best service. And this company has made that so obvious.
